The village hall

The village hall was built in 1919 of asbestos. It was built from soldiers’ security money after the First World War. They also organised a collection around the village. A Mr Howard gave forty pounds to the collection and Mr Major Claydon said that he would give another forty pounds contribution if they built the hall of bricks. The villagers did not agree with this so he withdrew his offer.

In the early days the hall was used as a club room where the villagers could go to play snooker and other games, but in recent years it has been just hired out to different organisations in the village.
