The School

The school was built in 1850 and in 1887 the attendance was 80. A later directory says it had the capacity to hold 150 children. In 1950 there were 23 children and they were talking about closing it. Eventually in 1978 Ashley, Cheveley, Kirtling and Woodditton joined together in an experiment, visiting the different schools for special kinds of lessons, but the numbers dropped so low that Kirtling school was closed in 1980.
